International Patent Search
An
International Patent Search, sometimes referred to as a novelty search, attempts to identify any patents that
have been filed for products similar to your idea. This search is similar to product searching however;
it examines professional patent databases, not websites. Strongly recommended to all innovators, a patent search can save you thousands of dollars in patent application fees, if your
idea is assessed as not being novel.
Based on the results of an
International Patent Search, you can begin to form an opinion on the novelty
and potential patentability of your idea. A patent attorney will be able to use the results to give you an indication
of the likelihood of you being able to gain patent protection, both in Australia and internationally.
